Korando is a larger seeded yellow that looks to become the new standard for Montana and western North and South Dakota yellow field pea growers – especially for those whose production is dedicated for feed. Although Korando is not quite as smooth or round as high-end markets demand, it is perfectly acceptable for elevators making bulk shipments to lower-end food markets and for food-aid programs (PL480). Korando has had some impressive showings in some higher-yielding eastern trials as well. Although Korando is expected to dominate in the west and find its greatest following there, we expect it to develop a significant fan base in the east as its disease package, standability, and yield potential will satisfy the more discriminating demands of many eastern pea growers as well . |
