Kona (New!)

Information

Kona is a new traditional type oat that is expected to replace Morton oats in our lineup. Kona has demonstrated Barley Yellow Dwarf virus resistance in field tests and has shown tolerance to crown rust. It has also proven itself to be more durable under stress conditions that can occur with dry land hay production, while still having good production when stress is absent. This means that Kona can provide more consistent production than less durable varieties.

Kona produces bright green foliage that is very attractive when in the bale. It has been tested for two years in strip trials at the Mandan Research Station as well as in replicated trials in other parts of the US. Kona was the traditional oat that stood out at Mandan when considering the value of durability under dry land production conditions.
