Forager is a selection from an Australian land race variety. It is categorized as a “dun” pea for its green-brown seed-coat. It is a small to medium in seed size, full-leafed, long vined, and purple flowered. In stressed (heat, moisture) environments (NE, WY, W SD, SW ND, Forager has historically out-produced Arvika with similar protein content. Arvika can be expected to out-perform Forager in higher yielding environments. A small percentage of the seed will remain dormant (hard) and emerge in subsequent years. Therefore it is important to avoid planting food-grade (yellow or green) pea varieties on ground planted to Forager for several years (5 to 7).
