Arvika/Kona is a very common pea and oat forage combination in the central and western
Dakotas. Arvika is an aggressive grower that usually synchronizes well maturity-wise with Kona oat when harvested as hay. In order to prevent molding &/or heating in the bale, it is important that peas be cut when the pods have not yet begun to swell. Kona oats will typically be somewhere between boot and soft dough stages when Arvikas are still flat podded – perfect for best feed quality and decent tonnage. |
