Green Field Peas |
Green field peas is a group generally lag behind yellow pea varieties with regard to yield potential, powdery mildew tolerance, and standability; however, there are several notable exceptions. Here are a few management suggestions to help you be a more successful producer of green peas. Seed peas on well drained soils, as peas do not tolerate standing water. (This is true for yellow varieties as well.) In a wetter climate or in a year with above average moisture, in addition to using a seed-applied fungicide, an early foliar fungicide application (before bloom, along with your chemical application) will help to improve standability, and should suppress some of the diseases seen in past growing seasons. As alluded to earlier, most green pea varieties are susceptible to powdery mildew. A later fungicide application, (50% bloom), will give you improved control. Rotation also plays a big part in the equation of disease management. The northern plains region has been experiencing an increase in the production of broadleaf crops. These crops tend to host the same or similar disease-causing pathogens that also affect peas. Beware of rotational history on fields intended for pulse production in 2008. A strong broadleaf crop history (especially other legumes) on those acres might have a detrimental effect on yield due to increased disease pressure in a higher moisture environment.

Forage Peas and Oats |
EverLeaf 126 is a true spring oat with dark foliage, an erect growth habit and very good standability. Ever- Leaf 126 has leaves that actually extend above the canopy at heading. EverLeaf 126 is a delayed heading oat and much of its forage mass and quality comes from an extended maturity. Since the plant is naturally vegetative for a longer period, biomass accumulation is extraordinary. EverLeaf 126 has a compact panicle that offers an attractive product when baled. Seed count averages 11,000 seeds per pound. In many production areas rust has adapted to conventional forage oats and is a significant impediment to quality and tonnage. EverLeaf 126 has excellent resistance to rust and most other leaf and stem diseases.
